In preparation for the 2019 Comrades Marathon, the Comrades Museum is currently working on updating the memorabilia on display in the History exhibition.
With the new elements, Arthur Newton’s 1923 Winner’s prize, an ornate mantlepiece clock, has just been restored and is now on display for all to enjoy.
Newton originally gave the clock away to the Harding Town Council for the enjoyment of all. His reason for parting with the clock was due to him feeling that being a farmer gave him an unfair advantage over his competitors when it came to training for the race.
The previous exhibition focused on the evolution of running apparel from the founding of the race. The new exhibit will focus on past prizes and prize winners, as well as never previously seen items from our archives.
The new displays will be completed and open for viewing from March 2019.
